This imagery is captured at one point in time and is current as of that date but it does not change. The 2008 orthophotos were captured in late April, 2008

The City's orthophoto coverage includes the City, UBC, and the University Endowment Lands and parts of Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) as well. As such, it exceeds the area defined by the City's facet grid (see Facet Grid Boundaries).

The 2008 orthophotos are very high quality 10 cm pixel resolution.  The downtown area was taken from an altitude of 8000 feet to minimize building lean. The rest of the City was taken from an altitude of 6000 feet.

Imagery is accurate as of the date it was taken although colours may or may not be exactly as occurred on that day as colours change from moment to moment due to sun and cloud cover.

An associated file provides the geo-location for each imagery file.

DWG, SHP, TIF, Mr. SID, and ECW formatted data are projected in UTM Zone 10, NAD83 (CSRS). KML, CSV, and XLS formatted data are in latitude and longitude (WGS84). Not all CSV and XLS files have latitude and longitude.

The City's orthophotos are provided in two variations as follows:

1. Version 1 includes MrSID files for each facet. Each facet file is about 6 MB in size.

2. Version 2 includes files each of which contains four facets combined in ECW format.
