Parks related dataset survey - final result summary

Thanks to everyone who had participated in this survey. The survey is now closed and you can see the summary of survey result below. We will use your feedback and start our work on some of these datasets.

Ranking of datasets (starting from the highest priority)

  1. Parks Listing
  2. Parks Programs in Community Centers
  3. Street Trees
  4. Park Projects
  5. Public Park Art
  6. Field Closures
  7. Memorial Plaques

Parks related dataset suggestions/benefits:

  1. Street Trees – potential benefits:
    • Allow adoption of trees/blocks of trees, committing to care for them
    • Allow “mapping” of the best streets for cherry blossom viewing
    • Ranking of the most-loved individual trees in the city
    • Volunteer arborists might map & wiki the different types of trees
  2. Memorial Plaques – potential benefits:
    • Able to read them online, and see what the commonalities/themes are
    • Maybe, with which donors/families were willing, a citizen might get cultural funding to do a website with some of the back stories about the people on the plaques
  3. Data suitable for use with the Open Street Map. Assuming the license issue is fixed, Parks listing would be very useful if it contained .shp files of the parks
  4. Park usage datafeed/dataset - availability of fields and to see event booking details (i.e., when and where a local club is playing and community events)
  5. Geopositioned street strees (x,y,z), DBH, species, and other available data such as condition and height
  6. Geocoded information so it can be layered on maps

Other dataset suggestions:

  1. Parking Meter Rates
  2. Parking Meter out of service – from Ticket Manager database
  3. Railways. Eg. Vancouver Streetcar, heavy rail
  4. Financial information on projects like Olympic Village, IT Shared Services, Hornby bike lane and this Open Data project
