Improved data for road construction activity and projects
November 6, 2013 – We improved our Road Ahead data package on road construction activities and projects that may affect traffic. The DWG, KML, and SHP data formats are now refreshed daily instead of weekly. Also, new Atom feeds are updated hourly from 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday to Friday.
The data package includes three layers:
- Projects currently under construction
- Current road closures
- Upcoming projects
3-1-1 case location details data
October 3, 2013 – Released 3-1-1 case location details data. Case data is a subset of the interactions dataset and refers only to those call types where 3-1-1 citizen service representatives generates a service request to a department. This dataset contains additional location information, such as the block range where service was requested, and the local area corresponding to the case location. Data is electronically extracted to CSV and XLS formats and is refreshed monthly.
Greenest City projects data
August 26, 2013 – Released data on projects that are part of the initiatives under the Greenest City 2020 Action Plan. Projects are categorized by one of the four project types and also by one of the ten Greenest City goals. This dataset is maintained manually and data comes from the City of Vancouver and external agencies.
Data is available in CSV, XLS and KML formats and is refreshed quarterly.
Community food assets data
July 8, 2013 – Released two community food assets datasets. The City tracks the number of community gardens, food trees, farmers markets, and community food markets, among others, to gauge the state of local food systems. While these assets are located within city boundaries, and some are on City and Park Board lands, the vast majority are not administered by the City of Vancouver, and have come to fruition through the dedicated work of many residents and community organizations.
This dataset is maintained manually and data comes from the City of Vancouver or from the specified managing organizations. Data is available in XLS and CSV formats and is refreshed every six months.
3-1-1 case volume data and improved interaction volume data
May 2, 2013 – Added 3-1-1 Contact Centre case volume data. The case data is part of the interactions dataset and refers only to calls when 3-1-1 citizen service representatives create service requests for departments. In addition, interaction volume data is now extracted electronically and refreshed monthly instead of quarterly. Available in CSV and XLS formats.
April 18, 2013 – Added orthophotos for 2011 and they are available in ECW and MrSID formats. Coverage includes the City, UBC, the University Endowment Lands, parts of Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Orthophotos from 2006, 2008 and 2009 are also available for download. All photos are in high quality 10cm pixel resolution.
Awarded contracts for goods and services
April 16, 2013 – Released data about contracts that have been posted publicly and awarded in 2012 to the supplier community to purchase goods and/or services for the Vancouver Group (City of Vancouver, Vancouver Park Board, Vancouver Police Board, and Vancouver Library). Data is updated on a quarterly basis and is available in CSV and XLS formats.
2001 - 2011 Census local area profiles
March 26, 2013 – The census is Canada抯 largest and most comprehensive data source conducted by Statistics Canada every five years.
The Census of Population collects demographics and linguistic information on every man, woman and child living in Canada.
These datasets are provided by Statistics Canada from the 2001, 2006 and 2011 Census as custom profile data orders for the City of Vancouver, using the City抯 22 local planning areas.
The data is available in CSV and XLS formats.

February 21, 2013 – The City has added the following 16 spatial datasets. They are available in DWG, KML, and SHP formats, and will be updated weekly.
Rental standards - current issues
February 7, 2013 – The City has released data of licenced rental properties with 5 or more units that have current (unresolved) by-law issues. This dataset includes the property address, the landlord or property owner抯 name, total number of units, and the total number of unresolved issues. It is available in CSV, XLS, XML, and JSON formats. The data is updated daily.
January 28, 2013 – The City has added a dataset that displays location data of bike racks that are installed on City property. It also includes street use permit locations issued to commercial tenants, Business Improvement Associations (BIA), building owners and development companies, etc. The data is available in CSV and XLS formats.
Weekend playfield status
January 16, 2013 – The City has added a dataset that displays weekend status for all playfields, ranging from non-regulation size or gravel fields to regulation size grass fields and artificial turf.
Except for artificial turf fields, all of the Park Board's fields, courts, diamonds and outdoor facilities are available for casual use on a first-come, first-serve basis when they are not closed for maintenance or in use by someone who has a permit. You must have a permit to use artificial turf fields.
All grass fields are reviewed by field maintenance staff to determine repairs, playability and closures and this dataset indicates the playfields that are closed for maintenance.
The data is available in CSV, XLS, XML and JSON formats. It will be updated every Friday by 4 pm and only applies to the weekend that follows immediately after.

November 6, 2012 – Crime data has just been added to the City抯 Open Data catalogue and is available starting in year 2003. The report data is extracted from the Vancouver Police Department抯 computer system and contains seven different crime types. Available in CSV and XLS formats.

Vancouver street trees
January 24, 2012 – We have just added Vancouver Street Trees to the City抯 Open Data catalogue. This dataset includes a listing of all public trees on boulevards in the City of Vancouver and provides tree location, species and other characteristics. Park trees and private trees are not included in the inventory. The data is available in Excel (.xls), Comma Separated Value (.csv), XML and JSON formats and is updated on a weekly basis.
Council expenses 2011 - Quarter 3
January 17, 2012 – Further to the initial release of Council Expenses data in April 2011, the City has just added Year 2011 - Quarter 3 expense data to the dataset. This dataset provides expenses that each Council member has incurred while conducting business on behalf of the City. Summary information is available for years 2002 - 2009 and detailed expense transactions are available starting in year 2010. This dataset will be updated quarterly from now on.
Animal Control inventory dataset
January 4, 2012 – We have just added three new datasets from our animal control inventory system which provides a record of animals that have come into the custody of the Vancouver Animal Control Office:
- Deceased Animals. This dataset provides information on domestic deceased pets picked up by City staff.
- Lost and Found. This dataset provides information on animals that are reported lost.
- Register. This dataset provides a general record of each animal that has come into the custody of Vancouver Animal Control and includes such things as medical status, breed, color and any known history on the animal.
The data is available in Excel (.xls), Comma Separated Value (.csv), XML and JSON formats and is updated on a daily basis.

3-1-1 Contact Centre metrics
July 12, 2011 – We have has just added 3-1-1 Contact Centre statistical data. This data includes contact centre metrics which shows the:
- Number of calls presented, handled, and abandoned at the centre.
- Average speed of answer from customer service representatives (CSRs).
- Resulting service levels achieved.
This data also includes the:
- Type of inquiries that come into the Centre (at a Department level).
- Volume of those inquiries.
The data is available in both Excel (.xls) and Comma Separated Value (.csv) formats. The data goes as far back as June 2009 and will be updated on a quarterly basis.
